About Micki Fine M.
Over 30 years ago the amazing processes of psychotherapy and mindfulness helped me open more deeply to life and free myself from much of the suffering caused by my limiting beliefs. I sometimes jest that mindfulness saved my life, but there may be some truth to that statement. Mindfulness is the awareness that arises when we bring open-hearted, non-judgmental attention into the present moment. My life’s work is helping others, including psychotherapists, develop mindfulness skills so they can live more fully, gracefully, and resourcefully. Psychotherapists can practice mindfulness as self-care outside of session, as a way of being present during the session, and also as an intervention with clients. The benefits of mindfulness are: • Increased self-awareness and self-acceptance • Enhanced appreciation of life • Less reactivity and greater serenity in the face of difficulties • More fluid adaptation to change and development of more effective coping strategies • Lasting decreases in stress-related physical symptoms • Significant decreases in anxiety and depression • Improved concentration and creativity • Enhanced brain and immune system functioning As you can imagine these benefits significantly affect the therapist’s ability to work more skillfully and ethically with clients. I have been in private psychotherapy practice since 1989 and have taught Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 1994. My clinical specialty is using mindfulness-based interventions to help people experiencing depression, anxiety and chronic pain. I enjoy helping groups or individuals explore mindfulness and by empowering therapists with mindfulness techniques I hope to increase exponentially the spread of mindfulness to others.
