Arkansas State University (A-State) in Jonesboro, AR, is a public research university and the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University (ASU) System. Founded in 1909 as the First District Agricultural School by the Arkansas Legislature, the institution has deep roots in agriculture—unsurprising given the fertile Delta region and its significant crop production in rice, cotton, soybeans, corn, peanuts, and more.Over time, A-State has grown into a comprehensive research institution and is now classified as an R2 Doctoral University (High Research Activity). Agriculture remains central to its mission, with the College of Agriculture focusing on student success, faculty advancement, and community engagement. As Dean, responsibilities extend broadly from cultivating student learning to fostering strong industry and community partnerships.Today, the College emphasizes creating transformative opportunities for students, faculty, and partners that serve as “seeds” for entrepreneurial growth—ranging from new food and meat products to compost, grains, and other innovations. The College has completed two new facilities designed to accelerate innovation and expand opportunities for students. Much of the advancements were made through growing private partnerships.
