ABOUT MICHIKO NAGATOMO

I am currently working as a Staff Nurse II at Kaiser Permanente on a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit and will be completing my Nurse Residency Program in January 2026. I am also a proud Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate of the University of San Francisco. As a first-generation immigrant, my nursing journey has been shaped by resilience, cultural diversity, and a strong commitment to compassion. Growing up in the Philippines, I witnessed how access to healthcare was often limited, which inspired me to pursue a career grounded in advocacy, kindness, and patient-centered care. My clinical experience includes over hours of hands-on training in Bay Area hospitals and more than three years of working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. These experiences taught me the importance of trust, teamwork, and empathy in fostering healing. Aside from what happens at the bedside, I\'m also driven by the broader conversations surrounding healthcare. My background includes leadership roles in professional organizations and honor societies, where I\'ve worked to uplift others, promote collaboration, and inspire change, shaping my understanding of the impact of collective action in advancing nursing practice. Guided by the value of cura personalis—care for the whole person—I strive to ensure that every patient feels seen, heard, and valued through small, everyday moments that build trust and healing. I am passionate about addressing healthcare disparities, supporting mental health, and continuing to grow in my practice to deliver safe, equitable, and compassionate care. I’m always open to connecting with others in the nursing and healthcare community!
