ABOUT MICHEL RODRIGUE
I didn’t expect to become President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) when I came here five years ago. I also didn’t expect to be overcome by a drive to advance mental health. Yet that’s precisely what’s happened. The mental health field is as compelling as it is complex — so long overlooked, so greatly misunderstood and so ripe with opportunity. The MHCC is blessed with an exceptionally talented and dedicated staff, along with a strong network of partners, all driven to improve mental health across Canada. As President and CEO, I pledge to honour their ambition and push for progress. I will establish and nurture relationships based on mutual trust and respect; foster accountability and a sense of responsibility; and embrace and manage the inherent risks of innovation. Two factors motivate me in my new job: a desire to help all people in Canada access the support they need, when and where they need it; and the recognition that my skills, knowledge and network have equipped me for the task. Together, we will build on the significant progress made on mental health in recent years. From building bridges with the business world to creating on-campus standards, the MHCC is poised to weave mental wellness into the fabric of society, one thread at a time. To learn more, I encourage you to consult Answering the Call, the MHCC’s new strategic plan.
