ABOUT MICHELLE ANDREA MESHEL SMITH

I am a native of Kingston Jamaica, where my love for entertainment and activism was nurtured. I love and appreciate the power entertainment has to impact the lives of people around the globe. Along with my passion for the arts in its various forms, I am a strong advocate for Social Justice. I founded the Pembroke Taparelli Arts and Film Festival an arts and film festival the perfect coupling of my love for the arts and my passion for social justice. With this festival I took action working to provide a platform for those “Artivists” (artist and activist) who seek to use their artistic voice for social change. I honed my festival experience during a brief stint as Programmer for the inaugural Diaspora program for the Hollywood Black Film Festival in 2013. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Adelphi University, and a Juris Doctorate from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. While at Cardozo School of Law I served on the Student Bar Association, as well as President of the Black Law Student Association and President of the Minority Law Student Association.As a filmmaker I am committed to creating characters that illuminates the human spirit of overcoming, redemption and transformation. I seek to to bring to light through film and television issues that bond us as a human family.Current ProjectsSLEEPING WITH STRANGERS is a comedy that uses humor to tackle issues that really shouldn’t be funny, like homelessness, religious intolerance or climate change. We follow the journey of Naomi Cullen and the slow-grind veteran residents of Providence House, SLEEPING WITH STRANGERS focuses on the pursuit of big dreams and its inevitable clash with reality.Seeking to
