About Michelle Parker
My first career was as a C-130 pilot in the U.S. Air Force. After retirement in 2014, I began a new career at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), spending the next six years teaching and helping to oversee the fixed-wing Aeronautical Science program. I was recruited to carry my PhD work (disruptive training innovations) into a Part 121 major airline, where in 20••••23, I worked to develop new leadership courses and facilitation skills training for the I/Es. I also oversaw all cross-fleet programs - most during a rapid post-pandemic growth period. These courses included a newly expanded pilot indoctrination program, I/E training, CRM, TEM, ETOPS, SMS for the ERC, and many other initiatives designed to help the airline through a time of flux and, ultimately, an acquisition. My work in the Human Factors and Safety field led me to ongoing collaborative work as part of LOSA, where I now get to combine my love for science-backed safety assessment with an extensive (and growing) knowledge of military and civilian fixed-wing aviation. My work now includes rotary wing operations, and what an exciting new foothold we have gained regarding safety in these operations! My passion will always be mentoring pilots beginning this exciting journey. Pilot mental health care (and the stigma of being vulnerable at times) is an urgent issue.
