I am a board certified acute care nurse practitioner working in Cardiology for the Heart & Vascular Institute in a variety of settings from Williamsport Hospital to our outreach clinics in Wellsboro and Mansfield. I work with all types of cardiology patients from general cardiology to heart failure to electrophysiology.

ABOUT MICHELLE J. NICKOLAUS

Michelle J. Nickolaus, MSN, CRNP, FACC has been a board-certified Adult Critical Care Nurse Practitioner for the past 23 years of the 30 years that she\'s been a nurse. She\'s managed complex congenital heart disease patients who have continued need for medical and surgical management. This means managing arrhythmia, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, endocarditis, as well as acquired heart disease. She\'s aided patients requiring surgical and medical interventions for their heart disease from ICDs to open heart surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Currently, she takes care of a variety of cardiovascular patients from all of the above subspecialty areas. Michelle is a well published and a seasoned national, regional, and local lecturer on a variety of cardiovascular topics. Actively involved in the American College of Cardiology, she holds the designation of Associate of the American College of Cardiology (AACC) in recognition of her contributions to cardiovascular nursing and medicine and most recently was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Cardiology (FACC) She is actively involved in national cardiovascular professional organizations in adult congenital heart disease and acquired heart disease areas. Most recently she helped write the ACC 2020 NP and PA-C competencies published in JACC.Over her career, she’s worked with acquired heart disease patients and holds CCRN certification continuously for over 20 years. She holds an appointment as a Clinical Associate for the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) School of Nursing. She has been a guest lecturer for both the Penn State and the University of Penn Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Programs.She was a founding member of the Penn State Hershey Advanced Practice Clinician Council and has been recognized with the 2011 Advanced Practice Clinician Excellence Award at Penn State Hershey and the 2008 Kienle Nurse Humanitarian Award from Penn State. When not at work, she and her husband actively volunteer with their son\'s Boy Scout Troop.
