ABOUT MICHELLE CARR
Michelle Carr is Professor of Accounting at University College Cork, Ireland, and the current Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, with responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of the department. Her research explores how management accounting and control systems operate in complex and uncertain environments, with a particular focus on risk and crisis management, accounting practices and power dynamics, and the role of performance systems in shaping the future of work. Uniting these themes is a concern with how organisations mobilise accounting practices to support trusted leadership via accountability and strategy execution. She has published widely in leading international accounting journals, including Accounting, Auditing & Accountability, The British Accounting Review, Journal of Management Control, and Financial Accountability & Management. She also authored a monograph on management control in healthcare, alongside contributing to several edited volumes. Michelle serves on the Editorial Board of the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal and works closely with government bodies, industry partners, professional associations, and social enterprises. Michelle has served as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee at Cork County Council and as a member of the Expert Working Group at the Department of Health. A regular invited speaker at industry and academic events, she is recognised for delivering impactful education and specialist training in areas such as performance management, data-driven decision-making, and cost control.
