ABOUT MICHELE CRAWFORD

Michele is a Cleveland based designer and project manager with a special interest in architecture and interiors. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Architecture from Ohio University and Master of Architecture with emphasis in Interiors from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Michele served two service terms in the Americorps Program with the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Charlotte, North Carolina. This experience fed her desire for investigation of land, politics and economics in architecture, and inspired her to be a contributing member of her environment. This has played out in her expanded willingness to serve and share her skill set with community and professional organizations. She has participated in both American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) programs where she advocates for strengthening the voice of emerging professionals by creating a platform for honest dialogue and developing supporting programs for professional development, mentoring and service. In addition, she serves on various boards ranging from youth arts to development and neighborhood organizations. In 2018 Michele was selected as a contributor to Ioby’s first Racial Justice Toolkit and received the AIA Cleveland’s Activism Award in 2015.Michele began her formal architecture career in Cleveland Ohio at Robert P. Madison International where she worked as a Project Designer for various sized projects. She then transitioned into a Project Management role in the Capital, Construction & Facilities Department at Cuyahoga Community College. Currently she works in the Cleveland Metroparks Design and Planning Department as a Project Development Manager. As a design professional, Michele believes that design changes our world and ultimately dreams to make design services more accessible to all communities through initiating creative thinking and problem solving skills to the masses. She is passionate about people, process, performance, painting, photography and collage. Motivated by finding the connections between the creative and critical, the built environment and elements thereof often provides context for her work. She is an Americans For The Arts Leader of Color Fellow, and participated in ULI Health Leaders and REDI programs.
