ABOUT MICHELE TUMMINELLO
I am a full professor of Applied Mathematics. My research activity includes the development of methods, indicators, and models based on Network Theory, Combinatorics, and Information Theory for the analysis of large databases concerning complex systems of economic, financial, and social nature, including technologically mediated social systems. Particular attention is devoted to the empirical study of financial markets, organized crime, and insurance fraud. Recently, interest has also been developed in the use and development of methods for the analysis of textual and multimedia data for the empirical study of the aforementioned complex systems. The developed methods allow (i) describing the emergence of collective structures in the systems under examination (ii) characterizing such structures and detecting the presence of significant or anomalous microstructures (\"motifs\").
