ABOUT MICHELE ROMANELLI

Nuclear Fusion Scientist, Theoretical Plasma PhysicistMichele Romanelli is the head of the Plasma Predictions and Simulations department and Principal Physicist at Tokamak Energy Ltd based at Milton Park, Abingdon. His primary research interest is plasma scenario, turbulence, transport and confinement in compact, spherical tokamak reactors. He is also interested in computational physics, and his work span activities ranging from analytic theory and advanced computing. Michele received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Torino, Italy, in 1995 and his PhD in Physics from the Imperial College of London in 1998. He then went on to hold several research / managerial positions at JET, ENEA, CEA and UKAEA before becoming JET Deputy Task Force Leader and EUROfusion Leader for the Code Development Project. Michele joined Tokamak Energy Ltd in 2020.Principal physicist expert of: Plasma physics, nuclear fusion, Tokamaks and magnetic confinement devices, heat and particle transport theory, numerical modelling, montecarlo kinetic codes, Hamiltonian codes, Magneto Hydro Dynamics, plasma turbulence modelling. Integrated modelling, code development, advanced computing, HPCPast responsabilities: As EUROfusion JET Task Force leader deputy, leading the JET scientific program, coordinating the participation of around 400 European scientists; European coordinator for the modelling of the new EU/Japan fusion experiment JT60-SAAs leader of the Code Development for Integrated Modelling project at EUROfusion define project workplan, deliverables, milestones. Coordinate the activity of more than hundred code developers across Europe. Ultimately deliver a full Tokamak Plasma simulator
