ABOUT MICHELE FIGUS

Michele Figus, a holder of M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, serves as Full Professor in Ophthalmology and Director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program at University of Pisa, Italy since 2018. He is also Vice Chair of the Department of Surgical, Medical, Molecular Pathology and Critical Care Medicine and he is Board Member of the School of Medicine. He became Head of the Ophthalmology Unit at Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Pisana and Director of the Center for Vision Education and Rehabilitation of Pisa in 2021. He is Scientific Director of Parma Training Center at European School for Advances Studies in Ophthalmology Foundation (ESASO). He worked at Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana since 2001 and he is Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (F.E.B.Ophth.) since 2016. His main areas of interest are glaucoma, cataract surgery, ocular surface diseases. He has been duty as National Expert in Ophthalmic Diagnosis (20••••20) for the Italian Ophthalmology Society. Michele is an eye surgeon (cataract, glaucoma). He is author of 200 JCR indexed articles in ophthalmology and visual sciences as well as 8 books, 21 book chapters, and 6 special issues as Guest Editor. He serves as Associate Editor in 3 indexed journals. He serves as Faculty member of ESASO and as Advisor in the Ocular Disease Patients Association. He is member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, European Glaucoma Society, World Glaucoma Association (Patient Committee Board Member), International Society of Cornea, Stem Cells and Ocular Surface (Board Member), Italian Ophthalmological Sciences Society, Italian Glaucoma Society (Vice President), Italian Association for Glaucoma Study.
