ABOUT MICHAEL SHELSEN

My career has not been standard or linear, instead it reflects what I look for in a role: transformational. My first 10 years were spent at EY up to the Senior Manager rank in Audit, Consulting and Business Development where I developed a sound business-foundation with a deep understanding of high-performance, data and decision-making. The next 10 years were spent in Talent, building global functions and teams in a variety of roles from National Head of Early-Talent at EY, Early-Talent Leader globally for TD Bank, Capital Markets Head of TA globally for Scotiabank (New York), Head of USA Recruitment, and Global Director (Head) of Talent Development and Early-Talent at Scotiabank. After the Bank\'s senior leadership asked me to take on a functional secondment in Canadian Banking to learn more about our banking operations, I took a role at the Scotiabank-owned Scene+ Loyalty Program to work in a COO capacity, with a fantastic leadership team, where I led growth of one of Canada\'s largest loyalty programs growing membership over 30% and onboarding integral clients while working on large transactions and leading the Partnerships function. I have been leading teams almost my entire career and most recently have built and led teams of as much as 62 people around the world. I have had the pleasure of working in 28 countries in my career which has helped fuel my energy and passion for thinking big, being bold and leading diverse teams. Shifting from Audit, Consulting and BD to Talent Acquisition to then Banking, BD (again) and customer/member experience has shown me that people leadership, strategic problem solving and executing on big-picture-thinking are required to be successful in all roles. My current role at SCENE+ is a transformational role at a key time for the company with three important Canadian owners who are more invested than ever it its timely success. As a builder, relationship owner and big-picture thinker this presents a unique opportunity that I know does not come around often. I rely on the vast set of leadership, relationship, and analysis skills I have developed in my broad career in this role. Having led and built complex teams and having led impactful transformative change in multiple business segments.
