ABOUT MIKE MCCREADY
With over twenty-five years of experience in immersive technology, education, and web technologies, I am a leader in driving innovation at the intersection of technology and learning. My passion lies in empowering organizations and students to adopt emerging tools such as VR, AR, and AI as practical solutions, while fostering cultures of creativity, collaboration, and industry impact. As an Associate Dean in NAIT’s School of Media and Information Technology, I oversee the development of new academic programs in the areas of media and emerging technologies that prepare graduates for the rapidly evolving digital economy. Over the past year, I’ve guided the transformation of the long-standing Digital Media and IT program into six specialized diplomas. This work builds on my earlier experience as an educator, researcher, and industry liaison. At Lethbridge College, I spearheaded the launch of one of Canada’s first VR/AR certificate programs and organized pioneering initiatives such as Merging Realities, the first full-day conference held entirely in VR. I also co-developed Spell Bound, an award-winning VR application designed to support children with dyslexia and dysgraphia. Later, through my role at the START Centre, I established collaborations and events such as the Global XR Forum and Hack and Seek, creating pathways for students, industry, and communities to connect through immersive technology.Across these roles, I’ve consistently focused on building programs, partnerships, and experiences that expand opportunities for learners while advancing innovation in industry. My commitment is to ensure education doesn’t just keep pace with change, but actively shapes the future of digital media, immersive technology, and AI in Alberta and beyond.
