ABOUT MICHAEL LOUNSBURY
Mike Lounsbury is a Professor, the A.F.(Chip) Collins Chair, and Chair of the Strategy, Entrepreneurship & Management Department at the Alberta School of Business at University of Alberta. He is also a part-time Professor of Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Australian National University College of Business and Economics. Lounsbury is a world renowned scholar of entrepreneurship and organizations, with over 100 publications and several prestigious awards. He is particularly well-known for his pioneering research on cultural entrepreneurship. His Ph.D. is in sociology and organization behavior from Northwestern University, and has had positions at Cornell University, Oxford University and the London School of Economics. He has been named to Clarivate Analytics Web of Science Highly Cited Researchers List in the field of economics & business, and Research.com ranks Lounsbury as 12th in Canada based on citation impact in business and management. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Academy of Management, and has received the J. Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research-the most prestigious research award at the University of Alberta. His industry experience includes several years of management consulting experience at Deloitte and other boutique firms; he was the marketing manager for a high tech start-up in the Silicon Valley, and worked in marketing for World Cup USA 1994. He also has several years of soccer coaching experience, and holds a Canada Soccer C License.At the University of Alberta, Lounsbury is the academic director of the eHUB entrepreneurship centre where he leads the development of entrepreneurship teaching, research and community outreach. He has developed a new university-wide undergraduate certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as entrepreneurship certificates for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. He has forged a new partnership with Edmonton Public Schools to build k-12 entrepreneurship programs, including a new high school course that is piloting at Ross Sheppard High School in 2022. In addition, he has cultivated longstanding partnerships with entrepreneurship centres at Stanford University, University of Southern California, University of Washington, and the University of Oregon to host the annual West Coast Research Symposium-one of the most prestigious international scholarly conferences on technology entrepreneurship.
