ABOUT MICHAEL LOMIO
I’m a results-driven economic development professional with a deep, multigenerational commitment to San Jose and a track record of turning complex civic challenges into tangible wins for businesses, neighborhoods, and residents. As San Jose’s Downtown Manager and formerly as Senior Land Use and Economic Development Policy Advisor in the Mayor’s Office, I lead cross-departmental teams to attract new investment, support small businesses, accelerate permitting, negotiate development solutions, and activate the public realm. My work spans everything from landing meaningful employers and revitalizing key corridors to supporting cultural partners, improving safety and cleanliness, and making it easier for entrepreneurs to grow in the urban core.My approach is understandable: be collaborative, be proactive, and get things done. I’m known for building trusted relationships with developers, property owners, corporate partners, philanthropies, and community organizations, and for using data, design thinking, and policy tools to deliver measurable outcomes. Whether it is advancing multimillion-dollar projects, coordinating major events like the Super Bowl, March Madness, World Cup and other 2026 sporting activations, or removing bureaucratic roadblocks for small businesses, I thrive at the intersection of vision and execution. Before joining the City, I worked at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, ultimately leading the government relations team, where I managed policy direction across local, state, and federal levels. I also bring experience from the Barack Obama White House, the California High-Speed Rail Authority, and from the Office of Congressman Jim Costa. Outside of work, I remain deeply engaged in civic life, serving on nonprofit boards and commissions focused on voting rights, community building, and expanding opportunity for LGBTQ+ residents.Passions include downtown revitalization, public-private partnerships, placemaking, housing and land use, business attraction, streamlining processes, major events, data-driven decision making, and building the San Jose we all know it can be.If you are working to grow your business in San Jose, strengthen downtown vibrancy, or explore partnership opportunities, I’d love to connect.
