ABOUT MICHAEL HAMSA
From the time I got my Commodore 64 in middle school and started tinkering with Basic, I knew what I wanted to do. I coded on the Radio Shack TRS-80 in high school and got an IBM PS/2 for college engineering classes, where I also worked on a DEC VAX mainframe. I now see creating great software as my hobby, not my work.As the Chief Technology Officer at GSI, I am responsible for the development of solutions for electric utility, gas utility and DOD customers. In this position I am involved in many activities; sales and marketing, architecture and design, development and testing, even writing code almost daily. For the past several years I have guided the teams that transformed GSI AssetManager from traditional on-premises software into cloud based software running on Microsoft’s Azure platform. I work with resources to develop native applications for AssetManager which run on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Over the past 30 years, I’ve have had the opportunity to work with many utilities across North America developing industry specific software on different GIS platforms, including GE Smallworld, ESRI ArcGIS and Enghouse Cablecad and GeoNet.In 2002 I became part of the ownership team at GSI. During that time, GSI grew from a company with 2 employees into an organization with employees in Austin, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver and Minneapolis and GSI gained many large customers in over 28 states and 2 Canadian Provinces. Late in 2011, I sold my shares back to GSI in a deal that was part of a larger recapitalization and reorganization initiative. I am the inventor of a patented software technology, an accomplished mountain biker and an Eagle Scout. I have had the opportunity to present at different trade shows on software and hardware technologies and received a speaker award at the 2001 GITA annual conference. I live in Cedar Park, Texas with my 3 children, Emily, Matthew and Amanda.
