About Michael F. Smith

My trial and appellate law practice is specialized in defending manufacturers and other suppliers and distributors of products, including automobiles, cranes, forklifts, pharmaceuticals, and implanted medical devices. I have represented clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout the United States. As part of my appellate practice, I have successfully defended judgments, based on both summary judgments and jury verdicts, in numerous appeals in state and federal courts throughout the United States, including appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court. Many of those appeals involved issues of first impression, and the reported opinions in those cases have established new precedent on a variety of legal issues.I serve as general counsel and President of the Board of Directors of Oklahomans for Equality, a nonprofit organization which seeks equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and families through advocacy, education, programs, alliances and the operation of the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center. I also serve on the board of directors of the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism by promoting understanding and respect among all races, religions and cultures through advocacy, conflict resolution and education.
