ABOUT MICHAEL ESGRO
I am a marine ecologist and science communicator with experience working at the science-policy interface. As a senior scientist with the California Ocean Protection Council (OPC), I lead a team focused on advancing the State\'s strategic priorities related to coastal and marine biodiversity. Focal areas of my work include: implementing California\'s 30x30 goal in coastal waters and adaptively managing our state\'s marine protected area network; protecting and restoring vulnerable marine ecosystems; supporting sustainable, climate-ready fisheries management; meaningfully engaging with California Native American Tribes; and leading OPC\'s international efforts on biodiversity.NAUI Instructor (NAUI #57151) and AAUS Scientific Diver (130 ft depth certification) with logged dives in both temperate and tropical environments. Extensive dive leadership experience, including as an instructor/divemaster/research diver and volunteer diver with the Monterey Bay Aquarium.M.S. in Applied Marine Science from CSU Monterey Bay (2016).
