Experience

1. United States Senator

   District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS)

   Jan 2007 — Present

   I work as an advocate for equal rights for the people of the District of Columbia; I mantain an office in City Hall where I work with the Mayor and DC Council on issues that affect the District at the national level. I lobby Congress on behalf of my constituents and help lead a national effort to gain statehood for the Nation\'s Capital. In 2014 I testified before the United States Senate in support of legislation that would make the District of Columbia the 51st state. I have been a Super-Delegate at the past three Democratic National Conventions. As one of five voting members of the New Columbia Statehood Commission, I recently helped rewrite and pass a new constitution for the District. In addition, I assisted in getting a referendum on the November ballot in support of DC statehood which passed by 80%. I am currently in my second six year term and was re-elected with votes, approximately 80% of ballots cast in 2012.
