About Michael Carper

Veteran data engineer with a decade+ of ETL, data pipelines, data modeling, and data architecture skills. Interesting in building complex data infrastructure or analytics-focused products as a data engineer, data architect, or platform software engineer- After graduating undergrad with a humanities major, I started my data career with a Microsoft-focused BI/DW consulting firm, where I did SQL Server development- I joined a healthcare analytics software startup as data hire #1 and grew into an architect role across the entire engineering org. I worked closely with software engineers to build and improve all the mission-critical places our app used data: data pipelines for carrier data, clinical and analytical models, normalization and aggregation, and finally our client-facing web app and BI tool. Our tech stack was Python, Ruby, and Postgres on AWS- At Amazon, I was on an analytics team for the heavy/bulky fulfillment network. I identified and mitigated discrepancies between central tools and the specific needs of our network. Fixes included spearheading changes with central forecasts, building new internal forecasts in Redshift, and automating Excel-laden manual processes- I joined Lessonly right as they were acquired by Seismic. There, I built out the Snowflake environment to provide customer-facing analytics about our LMS data for the first time.Currently at Meta, I am a “Privacy SME” DE in Wearables (Ray Ban Meta glasses). I clarify, develop, and implement policies around data retention, user location data, operational data, and privacy consents. I also help with our companion app analytics generally.
