ABOUT MICHAEL BLATCHFORD
Michael works with not-for-profit entities of all types, including registered charities, non-profit organizations, associations, churches, clubs and social enterprises. Michael advises these clients with regard to governance, structuring, planned giving and tax matters, as well as corporate and regulatory compliance. Michael represents organizations in their dealings with regulators, including the Canada Revenue Agency. He advises on fundraising and receipting issues for charities and has assisted numerous charities to carry out their work abroad. He also provides advice to organizations that carry on a social enterprise or other revenue generating activities.In addition, Michael works with organizations of every type as a parliamentarian, meeting advisor and independent chair, using tools such as Robert’s Rules of Order to capably facilitate complicated or contentious meetings.Michael also works with donors to plan and implement charitable gifts and other structures for effective philanthropy. His goal as an advisor and advocate is to provide clients with practical and effective guidance and representation to help achieve their objectives and carry out their mandate. Michael is the co-founder of the Charity and Non-Profit Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch and he is currently on the board of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners.
