ABOUT MICHAEL BARKER

I joined Stephen George + Partners in 1979 as a year out student to complete my professional qualifications. After registering as an architect in 1980, I became an Associate in 1985 and a Partner in 1990. In 2010, Stephen George + Partners became an LLP and I became the Managing Partner focusing on strategic development and maintaining SGP’s forward looking philosophy. For my last 5 years with SGP I worked in the Senior Partner role using my experience and enthusiasm to help to develop SGP’s work in London and the South East. I retired from that role in December 2022 and now work as a consultant to the business.During my time at Stephen George + Partners I pioneered innovation in the design of industrial and distribution buildings, out of town retail space and offices. I was responsible for the introduction of computers into the office in the eighties and data management in the last decade. I have been an active member of the AFMG (Architects Financial Management Group) and BELG (Built Environment Leaders Group) and attended MIPIM and UKREiiF.Stephen George + Partners was founded in 1970. We are one of the UK’s leading architectural practices with offices in London, Leicester, Leeds, Longbridge and Solihull. In 2009 Stephen George International was formed and we worked in China, Bulgaria, Oman and Russia. SGI now operate as an independent \"sister\" company. We are placed in the ‘Top 100’ practices by the Architects’ Journal and have been rated one of the ‘Top 100 Companies to work for’ in The Sunday Times.
