ABOUT MICHAELA S.
With 19 years of experience supporting individuals with autism and learning disabilities I am dedicated to promoting positive mental health, empowerment, and inclusion. My professional journey has taken me from working in specialist educational provisions to developing sensory profiles for young people within education to my current role as a Mental Health Practitioner within CAMHS. Within this role I continue to advocate for early intervention and person-centred care.Throughout my career, I’ve enhanced my experience and knowledge when working as a Band 6 Dynamic Support Keyworker within the NHS ICB with the objective to prevent Tier 4 mental health inpatient admissions for those with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities by ensuring that young people remain supported within their communities wherever possible. Collaboration lies at the heart of my practice, I’ve worked closely with social care, Commissioners, safeguarding teams, psychiatrists, teachers, SENCOs, heads of services and a range of mental health professionals to ensure the needs of each young person remain paramount.I am confident in multiagency working and have extensive experience of this from calling MDTs, professionals meetings to CETRs (Community, education treatment reviews). I am also confident in raising professional challenge where it is needed. Experience of this comes from working within the DSD on complex cases, requiring a knowledge of the local community teams and funding streams such as Continuing Care or Section 117 after care funding I believe deeply in the strength of an individual’s voice and the importance of community and that meaningful change comes from empowerment, understanding, and collective support. My experience includes leading group work, delivering training for parents, students, and schools to build confidence and awareness around autism, sensory needs, and emotional wellbeing. Challenging current systems to ensure the system does not become a barrier for a young person or their family. Above all, I am passionate about creating environments where every person is heard, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive
