ABOUT MICHAEL V.

A proven leader with 10+ years experience in the British civil service. Strong leadership, delivery, project management, policy and security experience at COO level. Empowerment and enabling my team a priority, alongside strong delivery.I am a transformative, enabling and deliver focussed leader who can drive strong delivery and performance while also implementing major change. My particular specialism is my ability to come into an organisation to build and empower departments or teams, and set them on the path to stellar delivery. I have rebuilt failed teams in short order, as well as starting from a clean slate. The result is consistent: strong, happy teams, with a passion for development and a relentless focus on delivery. In my current role, I have led the new locations strategy for the UK Space Agency, to double the Agency’s UK wide footprint, and create a world class Headquarters centre in Harwell Campus. I have reversed the slide in Agency BHD statistics and driven improvements of over 15% year on year. I have led Agency staff through a major transformation programme, using an integrated, outcome focused and staff centric approach to delivering and communicating change.I help my executive team create, build or develop high performance departments and/or organisational cultures. I optimise organisations to deliver effectively, efficiently and ambitiously – within set risk tolerances. I enjoy working with you to build the story of our department, its people and its goals. I excel at seeing beyond Target Operating Models, Organisational Design and Department Culture to join the dots and build a corporate jigsaw that works for you. I have a natural talent for inspiring, enabling and energising my teams to deliver. I particularly enjoy unlocking people talent, and removing the frustrations staff feel in the face of unfit processes and structures. I have extensive experience in the Civil Service in Transformation and Culture, most recently leading the UK Space Agency’s Change Management, Culture, Comms and Operations Department. I have strong communication experience in government, as a former Head of Marketing for the Foreign Office (leading on the GREAT international marketing campaign). Operational Delivery has also been a strong theme for me, through my work in the Space Agency, and previously in security and intelligence working on Afghanistan and other topical areas. The Civil Service is a second career for me, so these skills are complemented by a private sector background leaving me with solid commercial skills.
