About Michael Tsien

I\'m a fourth-year student at the University of Washington studying electrical and computer engineering, focusing on embedded systems and robotics. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in high-level coursework such as Intro. to Embedded Systems or Circuit Theory, extracurriculars such as Husky Robotics, or projects including an audio mixer and a Bluetooth-enabled LED controller. Through these experiences, I’ve been able to develop proficiencies in technical skills such as SystemVerilog, C, and digital and analog circuit design. I’ve also gained valuable experience collaborating and communicating in cross-functional teams, executing tasks independently, and maintaining relevant technical documentation.

Experience

  1. Firmware Lead

To implement behavior on the team\'s Mars rover, I plan and drive development for approximately 16 firmware projects split among a 24-member team. As such, I work on the research and design of the embedded C firmware for the PSoC and STM32 microcontrollers on each project’s custom PCB. To do so, I must utilize the CAN and I2C communication protocols to communicate between rover modules and onboard components. I also need to debug issues through UART, oscilloscopes, and DMMs. Furthermore, I’m charged with clarifying project requirements and questions and communicating across subsystem teams with other leads.
