Senior Director responsible for pre-construction and execution of 552 mile long, 525kV HVDC Sunzia Transmission Line Project in New Mexico and Arizona. Reporting directly to AVP, Michael has overall responsibility for delivering the Project to enable over 3,500MW of wind energy generation in New Mexico and delivery to customers in California and Arizona. Responsible for establishing budget, scope and schedule and delivering on execution.

ABOUT MICHAEL THOMPSON
Effective and enthusiastic leader in the electrical generation and transmission sector, specializing in utility-scale wind, solar and HV transmission (including HVDC). Experienced in all stages of the project development cycle, from early greenfield assessment and development, through permitting, construction, interconnection, commissioning, and commercial operation. Senior-level project team leader on multiple utility-scale elecrical energy developments in the US and Canada with executive and direct hands-on execution level experience. Has led capital projects from $100MM up to $2Bn, and most recently the execution of the Sunzia Transmission line from permitting to completion of major construction. Has a broad knowledge of the full development cycle providing a unique perspective on overall project risk management, indicators as a basis of strong decision-making, and inter-disciplinary management of internal and external project stakeholders, including executive management, utilities, off-takers, engineers, contractors and public stakeholders. With a broad and diverse technical training and background in engineering and resource development, for the past 20 years Michael has focused on the transformation of the electrical system to support clean energy development. With a passion for successfully resolving technically complex issues and concepts, and simplifying them to key risk elements and placing the appropriate focus, attention, and resources on critical-risk items for profitable and successful overall project development cycle.
