o During the last year Michael has represented the Republic of Kenya in three substantial arbitrations concerning energy and natural resources disputes:o Defending a claim for up to US$300 million brought by investors under a letter of support given by Government alleging that the demise of a Wind Energy project was attributable to a Political Event: o Defending a claim for US44million brought by Contractors in relation to the construction of electricity sub-stations to supply electricity to Nairobi.o Defending a claim for US$26 million brought by contractors in relation to the drilling of geothermal wells in a volcanic location.Michael’s work for the Republic of Zambia in a landmark case involving endemic State corruption perpetrated by members of the Government of Zambia presided over by the notorious Dr. Frederick Chiluba, as well as defending claims brought by vulture funds arising from the acquisition of Sovereign Debt, has been described by Legal Business as \"generally considered of paramount importance to the whole African continent\". Michael subsequently advised on the structure and drafting of the Debt Relief (Developing Countries) Act 2010.o Michael recently acted for H.E. President Museveni, President of Uganda, in a claim brought against him personally in a contractual dispute in the High Court. Michael has also acted in a number of Russian related arbitrations subject to Russian law concerning the construction of a shopping centre in Moscow, ownership of the Vankor fields in Siberia, a joint venture concerning an oil depot on the Caspian Sea and financing of the Moscow Ring Road as well as providing expert evidence on English law in the Moscow Arbitrazh Court.Michael has sat as an arbitrator in several arbitrations including disputes concerning aviation lease agreements, development of oil and gas fields and financing disputes.
