Michael Smith is a Technical Director with over 35 years experience, including 25 years professional experience as an Asset Manager and Building Surveyor. Michael has worked in various sectors including defence, nuclear, commercial, social housing, higher education and both local & central government. Michael is based in the Glasgow office and is responsible for AECOM\'s Strategic Asset Management service offering. Prior to this Michael was Discipline Manager for all legacy URS Building Surveying capability in the UK and Ireland.Particular experience includes- AECOM Asset Management Lead at HMNB Clyde supporting the improvement of asset management arrangements to align with ISO 55001- Undertaking ISO 55001 Gap Analysis of a number of large organisations including Network Rail (NW & C & Scotland), Scottish Canals, University of Edinburgh, Coal Authority, Crown Estate Scotland and Newcastle Colleges Group (NCG)- Delivery of Asset Management Training programmes including the Northern Ireland Government and the British Virgin Islands Government- Framework Manager on Strategic Asset Management Framework for the Strategic Investment Board in Northern Ireland- Secondment to Sellafield, one of the most complex nuclear sites in the world, to support the implementation of improved Asset Management arrangements in accordance with ISO 55001- Acting as the Estate Advisor to the Army in Scotland with responsibility for Aberdeen, Tayside, Stirling and Glasgow areas. The Army Estate Advisor contract was subsumed into the Regional Prime Contract (Scotland) covering the entire MoD estate in Scotland- Project Director in the delivery of a number of overseas commissions including the Asset Condition Grading Surveys of the MoD Garrisons on the Falkland Islands, Ascension Island, Brunei and Gibraltar- Interim role of Asset Manager at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL) at Porton Down.
