ABOUT MICHAEL SHORTT
I am a passionate, purpose-driven clinical leader and accredited Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Steward with over 20 years of experience across Bands 2–6 within the NHS, currently working as a Band 6 nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. My journey from support worker to leading within a fast-paced assessment unit has shaped my belief that healthcare should always be safer for patients, fairer for staff, and smarter in how systems work. I lead with clarity, integrity, and a strong focus on governance, patient safety, and sustainable improvement.I am known for bringing calm to pressure, structure to complexity, and for challenging unsafe practice when standards fall short. My work focuses on improving patient pathways, strengthening operational processes, supporting staff wellbeing, and ensuring services are built around safety rather than convenience. As an RCN Steward, I am equally committed to staff voice, representation, and improving workplace culture. I believe strong teams create safer care, and that leadership is about accountability, fairness, and leaving every environment better than you found it.My ambition is to help shape healthcare environments that are innovative, compassionate, and well-led, where staff feel valued and patients receive the very best of the NHS.
