Initiative Homes Ltd has been set up by the Schumacher Institute for Sustainable Systems. The aim of this not of profit company is to bring accessible and affordable sustainable homes into the mainstream housing market. The means of achieving this is to work closely with local communities to meet local needs and to actively involve them in the process of delivering the new homes. There are two needs the regularly come to light when communities speak out - affordable housing for those looking for their first home and downsizing houses for those whose families have flown the nest.The new localism act and Community Land Trusts provide ideal means to realise community action and Initiative Homes is committed to facilitating communities taking the initiative for their own futures. Hence the name Initiative Homes.We also have an extensive and growing network of relationships with Housing Associations, Local Authorities and potential corporate investors keen to develop affordable homes in a manner that generates significant positive social impact for the local communities. These exciting relationships promise much for the future. My challenge is to make it happen.
