About Michael Ringenburg
I am an experienced manager, technical leader, and researcher with a passion for applying HPC and AI to scientific challenges and high-impact problems.I am currently working as a principal engineer and software architect in the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where I get to use my background in HPC & AI to help neuroscientists working on understanding the brain and addressing degenerative brain diseases.Previously, I managed the Benchmarking and Workloads team within the Azure HPC & AI engineering organization, where we built representative large scale HPC and Generative AI workloads to test the performance, scalability, and functionality of Azure supercomputing infrastructure (H-series HPC virtual machines, and ND-series AI training and inference virtual machines). I also worked as a language architect and compiler team manager for Microsoft\'s AI Accelerator chip (MAIA).Before Microsoft, I worked as a Machine Learning Solution Architect at Cerebras Systems. Prior to that, I spent almost 15 years at Cray (acquired by HPE) where I was responsible for the technical architecture and strategy for AI on High-Performance Computing systems, and co-founded/led the Cray AI Innovation Lab and two AI research teams. Prior to that, I was the technical lead for the Cray XMT C/C++ compiler.
