About Michael Rachlin
Michael’s practice is founded on a strong conviction in architecture’s power to positively shape the way we live, work, socialize, and play in a built environment. From his contributions to the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles to his work supporting school districts in their mission to educate students, he has put this conviction into practice throughout a career spanning over 30 years. His partnerships with public-sector clients have strengthened our communities by delivering modern schools, vibrant civic buildings, healing healthcare spaces, and more. A graduate of Arizona State University, he has developed a reputation for sensitive, contextual design solutions that are informed by a contemporary aesthetic. Clients appreciate his multi-faceted approach to design, which encompasses practical elements as well as the aesthetic and psychological elements that make a space respond to universal human desires for attractive surroundings. His portfolio spans a variety of building types – schools, community centers, medical office suites, and more – and project types including planning, new design and construction, modernization, and historic preservation. Key to his success is his ability to build consensus among multiple stakeholders to forge a shared vision of the project. These qualities, combined with his passion for preserving our historic heritage and exceptional attention to detail, were instrumental in his selection as construction monitor and on-site representative for FEMA and California’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) on the $300 million seismic and historic rehabilitation of Los Angeles City Hall. Today, clients continue to benefit from Michael’s insight and leadership, which help successfully navigate project challenges from concept to construction and result in projects that communities are proud to call their own.
