Work with internal and external stakeholders at a Fortune 140 company to craft press releases, disseminate them over the wire, monitor pickup and coordinate follow-up media interest. Created and consistently updated crisis communications plans and procedures. Routinely serve as the corporate communications representative during crisis drills companywide. Partner with various communications and operations teams on creating or updating anything crisis-related such as plans, content and procedures. Preparing communications and advising strategy for initiatives including but not limited to extreme weather events, aerial services, nuclear emergency, pipeline emergency and data security. Served as the chairman of the Southeast Energy Exchange Market that features 19 utility members. Maintain the 24/7 media relations phone line. Monitor media mentions and provide reports as needed to management and the Board. Secured coverage from and formed relationships with national outlets including but not limited to The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Associated Press. Served as the corporate communications liaison to our federal services team, playing a role in Southern Company’s MOU signing with the Department of Defense by way of the General Services Administration. Work hands-on with vendors to ensure the company is receiving optimal results and not overspending for services. Provide support as needed in anything externally facing such as copy editing, brand initiatives and social media, while also lending assistance to the internal communications team on various projects; proactively seek out ways to connect with and support operating companies’ communications teams. Volunteer efforts for local schools, communities in need, disease awareness and veterans.
