About Michael Paul Waide
With nearly 20 years of experience in community college higher education, I am a passionate academic leader and educator who empowers students to achieve their academic and career goals. Presently, I am honored to serve as the President (interim) of Pierpont Community & Technical College. As the Provost and VP of Academics at Pierpont Community and Technical College, I delivered strategic planning, administrative leadership, and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs. I also oversaw the assessment, accreditation, and development of academic programs and services that support the needs of the community and the labor market.I hold a Doctor of Education in Leadership from the American College of Education, a Master of Philosophy in Human Development and Family Studies from Syracuse University, and a Master of Divinity from Emory University. I am also a tenured professor in Medical Laboratory Technology at Pierpont CTC and a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist, certified by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). As an educator and health care professional, I advocate for workforce entry through focused career pathways that offer learners industry credentials and mobility.My research focuses on the resilience and persistence of nontraditional aged community college students in rural Appalachia, a topic that informs my professional practices and advocacy for student success. I have also published and presented on various topics related to community and technical colleges, workforce education, and economic development.
