Responsible for managing all production and related activities in a chemical manufacturing plant focused on esterification, polymerization, and emulsification. Managing safety, quality, productivity, environmental compliance, personnel, fixed costs, and management systems. Setting departmental goals and targets, managing and reviewing production personnel, and interfacing with outside departments to achieve set goals and targets.Responsibilities- Supervising the safety, quality, and productivity of all plant operations- Management of department personnel (20+ operations personnel), including goals and targets, disciplinary action, training, and performance reviews- Ensuring product quality, including investigation of non-conforming products and managing corrective and preventative actions- Analyzing and optimizing productivity, including meeting production schedules, managing plant shutdowns, and coordinating repairs and projects- Managing fixed costs, including maintenance and repair, personnel, and supplies- Assisting in the development of company policies and guidelines- Managing process optimization, including continual improvement for processes, human capital development, and management systems- Implementing and maintaining housekeeping, 5S, and Kaizen culture and programs- Supporting the maintenance department to maximize equipment reliability- Initiating and implementing capital projects- Interfacing with Planning and Purchasing to maintain and control raw materials and finished goods- Providing approval for technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing- Investigating root cause of customer complaints as required- Establishing and managing fixed costs, cost reduction programs, and capital budgets- Development and approval of all department procedures and forms- Interviewing, hiring, and training employees, including planning, assigning, and directing production functions- Leading and participating in site HAZMAT response.
