ABOUT MICHAEL OKEEFFE

With over 7 years of professional programming experience and a master\'s degree in computer science, I am a passionate and proficient hands on software engineering manager with experience in multiple industries. I specialise in building teams, architecting and implementing general and client-specific solutions, and coding in Python, JavaScript, Docker, and AWS. I have led projects involving front and backend development, automated testing, agile methodologies, and cross-platform deployment. I have also leveraged my teaching and scientific background to provide training workshops in Python and conducted original research in biophysics and biomedical sciences.At Machine Medicine, I managed 19 full stack engineers, architect and oversaw the development and delivery of innovative and high-quality software products that improve the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. I also collaborated with other senior managers and stakeholders to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the engineering department and the company as a whole.I currently run a team of 4 engineers and am approximately 80% hands on. The product is python, typescript and React deployed on AWS. We deliver decarbonisation insights and levers to help organisations reduce costs and carbon emissions. I have mentored each team member since arriving, I have fostered a culture of support and collaboration within the department and have introduced scrum practices including sprints, which has already had a measurable impact on departmental performance.My mission is to use my skills and expertise to create positive social impact and solve real-world problems through technology. I am always eager to learn new tools and techniques, and to share my knowledge and experience with others. I enjoy working in a dynamic and collaborative environment where I can challenge myself and grow as a professional and as a person.
