ABOUT MICHAEL NORTHCOTT

I am a Senior Design Engineer with a vast knowledge of plant and layout requirements for electrical power transmission and distribution systems, with a focus on extremely high voltage switchgear. I am a time served design engineer who has been a part of a small engineering firm and multinational engineering corporations. I have been able to develop my learning into several different areas including production, planning, maintenance, customer service and costing. I am keen to develop these skills further if an opportunity to do so arose. I have experience using Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Inventor, Catia V5, Pro/ENGINEER, Solidworks 3D design packages and AutoCAD 2D as well as being experienced in using all aspects of Microsoft Office and some experience using Sage accounting software. In recent years as part of a project management team I have also used company specific programmes for managing client deadlines and specialist industry design software such as Primtech to fulfil my role. I have experience of calculations involving stresses, strains, loadings and environmental effects on plant, structures, cables and conductors. Analysing civil and electrical drawings along with other disciplines has been part of the roles I have undertaken. I have been working through my own business for several years on National Grid projects through third party organisations. I have recently taken the step to work on my own directly for customers and I am looking to work either remotely or on site on a fixed contract basis. This will hopefully help me expand my business and develop skills and relationships with several clients. I have my own design software and insurance, proof of which can be provided if required.
