ABOUT MICHAEL NIGGEL
Founder and CEO of Second Ventures LLC. Currently involved in helping start-up and small businesses in multiple VC and angel investor portfolios, as well as serving on multiple Commercial, GovCon, and Association Boards.As former CEO of ACT1 Federal, Mike set the firm’s strategic direction, leading enterprise growth initiatives, overseeing successful delivery of ACT1 programs, and guiding enterprise value, governance, and employee satisfaction. He also directs the firm’s Joint Venture Partnerships to ensure customer satisfaction. Mike has Defense, Space/Intel and Int\'l Security Cooperation experience spanning 30+ years including entrepreneurship, program and financial management, business intel / contract negotiations and mission operational support on many complex DoD ACAT1 and DHS Level1 programs, Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) programs. He grew ACT1 from a small business into a thriving, growth oriented mid-tier firm which has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the region on the Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s 2020 Fantastic 50 and Washington Business Journal’s Fast 75, and nationally as one of the Fastest Private Growing Companies in America as part of the 2020 Inc. list.Before founding ACT1, Mike was a Vice President/Operations Manager with SAIC’s Technical/Business Solutions Operations supporting the Secretary of Defense’s Office on the National Defense Panel. He managed 3 SAIC Acquisition Divisions supporting all Armed Services missions. Before SAIC, he served as a Presidential Management Intern with the Air Force and OSD. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Professional Services Council (PSC), the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Ronald Reagan Foundation\'s National Leadership Council and is a Board Advisor to the Association of Enterprise Growth (AEG), the Cyber Bytes Foundation, and is a member of the Small and Emerging Contractor Advisory Forum (SECAF). His legacy of work with ACT1 is featured in the book The American Entrepreneur.Mr. Niggel was an Eli Lilly Fellow and earned an MPA in Financial and Policy Analysis from Indiana University and holds a BA with Distinction in Political Science and History and the prestigious Odyssey Medal from Hendrix College. He is a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College Program Manager’s Course (DAU PM Level He is married to retired Col. Toni Arnold, USAF. They live in Alexandria, VA with their dog, Lacy.
