ABOUT MICHAEL NICHOLS
I lead the Arup Bridges and Civils Structures discipline in Leeds working on a wide spectrum of Civil Engineering projects. My experience includes the feasibility, design, assessment, refurbishment and project management of bridges, flood defences, airport and civil infrastructure schemes.I have benefited from working on a diverse range of projects with some excellent Clients including Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme, Humber Bridge Toll Replacement and more recently working on elements of the HS2 Phase 2B project as well as supporting the Environment Agency in the aftermath of flooding. These projects have presented different challenges, requiring innovation and collaboration with other stakeholders. I have developed an extensive knowledge of Contract Management providing commercial, risk and programme expertise. Through this variety of work I have obtained a sound understanding of the whole project cycle from initial planning phases through to commissioning and maintenance and have enjoyed seeing projects evolve from concept through to delivery and operation.I also enjoy supporting and developing the skills of our team and I am a Supervising Civil Engineer to a number of graduates and apprentices on ICE training agreements.
