About Michael Medel
Mike Medel has more than 30 years of pharmacy and healthcare industry experience. His background is well rounded and includes many aspects of managed pharmacy services, such as overall strategy development and implementation, pharmacy benefit management (PBM), clinical support, contracting, network strategy, manufacturer relations, utilization and cost management, project management, and operations. Prior to rejoining PSG, Mike worked as the Senior Director of Managed Pharmacy Solutions, at Banner Health, a 29-hospital system providing leadership and strategy for its accountable care organization (ACO) and other risk-based operations. For PSG, Mike provides consulting leadership to a variety of large national employers, health systems, health plans, and other public-sector programs. Mike also has vast knowledge in the managed care pharmacy environment. He was the founding member of the pharmacy department and served as Vice President of Pharmacy services for AMERIGROUP Corporation, where he developed, implemented, and grew the pharmacy department for this million-member managed care organization that is now part of the Anthem Inc. suite of products. Mike is involved with the American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP), as a speaker/instructor for their leadership program focused on integrating pharmacy benefit management into health system operations. He also is a past member of the editorial advisory board for Drug Benefit Trends, an industry-leading journal for healthcare decision makers. Mike earned a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University and a Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Illinois College of Pharmacy.Specialties: Hospital pharmacy risk strategies, pharmacy revenue improvement, Pharmacy Benefitit Management (PBM).
