ABOUT MICHAEL MCALLISTER
I have worked in museums and archaeology for the last 30+ years. I have shfited my emphasis to Battlefield House Museum & Park where we commemorate the Battle of Stoney Creek, June 6th 1813 - a War of 1812 battle. The property contains 34 acres of woodland and curated meadow with a stream running through it. A preserved historic house - a portion of which was in place during the Battle of Stoney Creek, a portion of the battlefield a Centennial monument as well as the artwork Eagles Among Us are the key elements that help us tell those stories. The work to preserve the property house and battlefield also preserved thousands of years of indigenous stewardship. goal as the former Coordinator of the Hamilton Military Museum was to exhibit and teach the social history of the military, provoking thoughtful consideration of why we fight and the pursuit of peace. I also wished to enhance community input to the museum in order to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse set of communities in the City of Hamilton today. I formerly acted as Coordinator of the Hamilton & Scourge National Historic Site of Canada. See the Virtual Tour Link and the article below for a discussion of the past, present and future of this internationally significant shipwreck site.Just before leaving the Steam Museum to take on the role of Curatorial Program Assistant at Dundurn National Historic Site, the staff at the Steam Museum created a teaser video based on \"the Fox\" by Ylvis, called \"What does the Pump Say?\" We rewrote the lyrics and then recorded new vocals. Most of the filming took place inside the 1859 pumphouse. We came third in the 2014 museum dance off competition hosted by whenyouworkatamuseum.com. Check out the youtube video below. It was so much fun making what does the pump say, we did it again the next year, but this time all the Hamilton Civic Museums participated.
