About Michael Magoulias
I have always taken a holistic approach to my career in order to place my employers, partners, and customers in the strongest position to meet the needs facing researchers in a world of constant change and increasing skepticism about epistemic values. I have worked across all key functional areas in the academic information industry. My activities have spanned a wide continuum of skill sets and market segments, encompassing general management, product development, strategy, sales, marketing, and content creation/curation in society publishing, STM publishing, and HSS. I have launched new journals, was instrumental in creating a new academic society (History of the Humanities), and have created new vehicles for academic research departments, NGOs, government agencies, and corporations to reach an international audience numbering in the dozens of millions every year. I have worked for both US-based and international companies, large and small, for profit, and non-profit, and one of the world\'s elite research universities (University of Chicago). I excel at building relationships with major academic researchers and administrators, and have used the insights generated by these relationships to create new products and services that have produced new revenues and increased the stature of the organizations I worked for. In an industry that has focused on historical notions of impact to gauge quality, I have been a leader in developing novel societal impact measures and granular analytics unique to this industry. This innovative data capture and analysis activity has been showcased over the past two years by the Financial Times, and has led to significant growth in new revenues and customer relationships internationally. • COPE Council Member (Committee on Publication Ethics) 20••••19 • Member of NISO JAV (Journal Article Version) Revision Working Group • Co-author PNAS article #2017–15374R, “Transparency in Authors’ Contributions and Responsibilities to Promote Integrity in Scientific Publication • Wharton Program for Pharmaceutical & Biotech Executives (2008) • Panelist on 2003 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Grants Panel • First-place winner of 1989 British Vogue Talent Contest for Writers
