About Michael Knapp
The mission of Green River is to use emerging technology to improve public education, promote public health, and protect the environment. We use software development, analytics, and machine learning to help organizations improve, and to realize their social missions. In particular, much of our software has been developed to promote green building, implement school improvement frameworks, integrate data systems to support integrated care of the homeless, and facilitate ethical supply change management. We recently launched Open Path an open source software platform designed to help communities, states, hospitals, and insurance companies better serve people in the homeless community. Open Path helps organizations integrate information and coordinate care across multiple agencies, in an effort to improve health outcomes and reduce hospital utilization. We are pleased with the promising early success of this new initiative in simultaneously driving down health care costs, reducing homelessness, and improving health. Founded in Green River has grown into a team of 20+ software architects, designers, and programmers. As CEO, I provide entrepreneurial leadership, and coordinate engagements with a wide variety of clients including large corporations, city and state governments, and non-profit organizations in the United States and Europe. Before founding Green River in I served as faculty at Marlboro College Graduate School. I received a Ph.D. from Yale University, with a concentration in environmental health, and a Masters in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. I focused my work at Yale in data science, and have expertise in spatial statistics, biostatistics, and social science statistics. I live in the rural village of Green River, Vermont — southwest of Brattleboro. I spend my time off working on my 48-acre meadow adjacent to the Green River.
