About Michael Kanaley

As one of the original team members at Global Prairie, I have helped drive our firm’s growth while promoting and advancing the mission and value of Global Prairie’s colleagues and clients alike. I have more than 25 years of marketing and communications experience and have led teams and provided strategic counsel to companies and organizations in a variety of highly regulated sectors, including pharmaceutical, biotech, energy and the federal government. I provide clients with guidance in supporting global sales and marketing efforts, navigating stakeholder and advocacy-related matters, developing and implementing thought-leader programs, handling crisis management issues, and developing executive communications.As Managing Director at Global Prairie, I have led our federal partnership and subcontractor relationships with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). I also serve on Global Prairie’s Board of Directors. Additionally, I have led day-to-day management of Global Prairie’s offices worldwide, including resource management and talent development.Prior to joining Global Prairie, I was a senior vice president and partner at FleishmanHillard, one of the world’s largest strategic communications firms. While there, I counseled clients on communications initiatives, crisis management, and reputation management. I spent the first 14 years of my career in Washington, D.C. While there, I led a division of an international trade association representing the interests of multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies that manufacture plasma therapies worldwide. In that capacity, I partnered with industry CEOs and executives, oversaw standard-setting programs and served as an industry liaison and spokesperson with the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation & Research (CBER) and Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). During my time in Washington, D.C, I also worked for two law firms with premier federal government regulatory practices and advised clients on market opportunities and regulatory compliance requirements and initiatives.In addition to my professional experiences and interests, I serve as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. I’ve also served as a member of the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC), the Kansas City Symphony Business Council, and the Reviving Baseball in the Inner City (RBI) Board of Directors.
