About Michael Jensen
As a dedicated professional and lifelong learner, I have intentionally pursued opportunities that push me to develop holistically and multidimensionally. I currently work as a process and facilities engineer in Wacker Chemical Corp\'s Charleston HDK® plant, where I and an awesome team operate, maintain, and improve the unit. Prior to my current role, I earned a master\'s degree from the Beijing Foreign Studies University, for which I wrote a thesis quantitatively studying the objectivity of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) toward foreign acquirers during the US-China trade war. Before branching out into an IR master’s to develop my expertise in that vein, I worked as STEM recruiter and coordinator of the Global Humanitarian Engineering Emphasis (GHEE) program at Walla Walla University (WWU). In that role, I enjoyed leading a team that wrote a publication about service learning in engineering for a peer-reviewed journal, actively working to develop and implement strategies to increase enrollment in the university’s STEM disciplines, and improving the quality of the school’s engineering program. The diversity and dynamic nature of the work made the job a blast for me, and I especially appreciated that it helped me continue my efforts to develop my professional and personal skills on a variety of fronts. Prior to that job in WWU’s School of Engineering, I earned my mechanical engineering degree from that school while acting as president of the school’s ASME club, serving as HVAC team member and later leader of the Engineers Without Borders India Project Team, working as an feature editor and investigative journalist at the Collegian (school newspaper), and volunteering as a Cross-Cultural Communications Trainee in Hong Kong for 6 months.
