ABOUT MICHAEL HUSTON

My strengths are:• Building relationships across organizations and with external partners• Understanding the intersections of market and technology trends• Envisioning, championing, and launching strategic research programs• My academic and professional research has always relied on multidisciplinary problem solvingI am currently focusing on the Lubrizol Corporation\'s broader open innovation, new business development, and sustainability portfolios. The chemical industry has had more than a century to optimize the conversion of crude oil and natural gas into specialty chemicals and polymers which have greatly improved human quality of life. On a much faster pace the industry must innovate to serve rapidly changing markets with problem solving solutions based on more sustainably derived materials having resilient supply chains.Equally important to me is mentoring the next generation of scientists and engineers to help these young women and men apply their skills to solve real world problems while growing professionally and personally. I must pay forward in respect for those persons who made such a difference as my mentors.In my former role of Strategic Technology Team Leader, I envisioned, planned, championed, and managed a multi-million dollar annual project portfolio which provided new chemistry, new testing capabilities, fundamental knowledge, and intellectual property building blocks upon which next generation products were built supporting the long term growth of Lubrizol’s Driveline Lubricants business. The portfolio included multidisciplinary research projects across Lubrizol\'s laboratories in the USA, UK and Japan as well as collaboration with external industrial partners and the funding of academic research.
