ABOUT MICHAEL HSU
Hello, my name is Michael Hsu! I am a board-certified addiction psychiatrist and faculty at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and the Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center. My clinical and research work aim to improve substance use treatment outcomes, quality of life, and functioning among homeless-experienced Veterans with mental health and/or substance use disorders.I am a principal investigator on several federally funded research studies focused on developing and implementing innovative and evidence-based substance use disorder treatment interventions for homeless-experienced Veterans with stimulant and/or opioid use disorder. I was awarded a 2026 VA Office of Research & Development Career Development Award to tailor and implement a psychosocial program for Veterans residing in permanent supportive housing that addresses methamphetamine use disorder and enhances social functioning. My research also focuses on broadening access to opioid use disorder treatment among vulnerable populations and the therapeutic use of cannabis and cannabinoids. My research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as JAMA, Frontiers in Psychiatry, and the American Journal of Addictions, and covered by media outlets including The New York Times, Wallstreet Journal, NBC, The Washington Post, Fox News and iHeartRadio.Thank you for visiting my page!
