About Michael Hogue
Dr. Hogue is a leading expert in vaccines and immunization practice. He is a key opinion leader related to effectively implementing vaccines into clinical practice, providing advice and consultation to the pharmaceutical industry, non-profits, hospitals/health-systems and governmental agencies. A highly skilled academician, Dr. Hogue is a full professor of pharmacy practice and has experience in experiential education, as a department chair, and as the dean of a school of pharmacy. Dr. Hogue has given hundreds of lectures on vaccines and immunization practice, as well as on global health and international travel medicine, throughout the United States, China, Japan, and other parts of Asia. A former community independent pharmacy owner and entrepreneur, Dr. Hogue understands the business of pharmacy from a very practical perspective. Dr. Hogue also is highly regarded in interprofessional practice, having worked as a clinical pharmacist in family medicine clinics in north and central Alabama for much of his career, and now serving as the director for interprofessional education of the largest faith-based academic health sciences center in the U.S. Partnering with physicians and nurses, Dr. Hogue has improved care through collaboration in a managed care primary care clinic and through a public health clinic, and is currently launching a pharmacotherapy clinic with a one thousand member physician practice in California. Dr. Hogue joined the faculty at Samford University in 2004, being recruited to assist with public health practice development due to his pioneering work in immunization practice in the mid-1990s. In late 2018 Dr. Hogue moved to Southern California to become Dean of Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy Dr. Hogue is recognized as one of the originators of the American Pharmacists Association\'s national certificate program in immunizations. He is highly engaged in educating pharmacists, physicians, nurse practitioners and other healthcare providers about vaccines and immunization practice. He has served on numerous national Boards, including those of the American Pharmacists Association and National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. He is the APhA liaison representative to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention\'s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), where he also serves CDC on the COVID-19 vaccines and Adult RSV vaccines workgroups. He is a board member of the California Immunization Coalition, and president of the California Pharmacists Association Foundation.
