ABOUT MICHAEL HILL

I have a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Toronto, an M.A. in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations from the University of Toronto, an M.Ed. In Language and Literacies Education from OISE, and a Certificate of Achievement in Centennial College\'s Teacher of Adults Program. I hold OCELT Certification from TESL Ontario, am a certified CLBPT, I-CELBAN, CELBAN, and TOEIC Assessor. I have studied numerous languages, including: French, German, Arabic, Farsi, Turkish, and Spanish, and recently completed all levels of Mandarin offered at George Brown College. I began my teaching career in Turkey, where I taught English as a Foreign Language and English for Specific Purposes. In Canada, I have taught all levels of English, in both the ESL and non-ESL streams, at York University, Seneca College, and at Centennial College, where I was twice awarded the Teaching Award of Excellence. I also taught in a private language school, where, in addition to teaching ESL, I developed and taught an intensive four-month TOEIC prep course. At George Brown College, I have worked in assessment, advising, and in teaching. I was a Sessional EAP Instructor, full-time Assessment Centre Advisor, seconded Student Success Specialist, and for the past 12 years, I have worked as a full-time Tutoring and Learning Centre Advisor while continuing to teach part time. At George Brown, I have taught various levels of writing, EAP, ESL, and communications courses for internationally-educated healthcare workers, as well as a course on Customer Service for hospitality students at a partner institution in Shanghai, China. I am currently on a PD leave until January 2023.
